Alaska Clean Cities and Communities Coalition

ABOUT

The Alaska Clean Cities and Communities Apprentice Coalition is part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Clean Cities and Communities network. Together, we work to advance clean, efficient, and affordable transportation options across Alaska.

Learn More About Clean Cities and Communities

As one of more than 75 DOE-designated coalitions nationwide, our team helps reduce petroleum use, cut vehicle emissions, and support the growth of cleaner fuels and technologies in communities large and small—from Anchorage to rural Alaska.

Since the Clean Cities and Communities program began in 1993, local coalitions have helped put millions of alternative fuel and electric vehicles on the road, built fueling and charging infrastructure across the country, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by tens of millions of tons.

Our mission: Clean Cities and Communities advances the nation’s environment, energy security, and economic prosperity through collaboration with communities by building partnerships with public and private stakeholders.

Who We Are

The Alaska coalition is part of a national network of more than 75 Clean Cities and Communities programs covering nearly 93% of the U.S. population. Each coalition tailors its work to local needs and opportunities.

Our Alaska team works closely with public agencies, tribal governments, private businesses, fuel providers, utilities, and community organizations to move clean transportation forward in ways that fit our state’s unique geography, energy mix, and infrastructure challenges.

What We Do

The Alaska Clean Cities and Communities Apprentice Coalition connects nationwide CCC goals with local action. We provide expertise, tools, and hands-on support to help organizations plan, fund, and deploy advanced transportation solutions that work in Alaska’s unique conditions.

We also help connect Alaskans to DOE resources like the Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) and FuelEconomy.gov, which offer trusted information on clean fuels, vehicle options, and cost savings..

Why It Matters

Transportation accounts for most of the petroleum used in the U.S.—and it’s one of the biggest household expenses for Alaskans. By using cleaner fuels and improving efficiency, we can lower costs, create new economic opportunities, and protect the environment that defines our state.

Clean transportation supports:

  • Lower fuel and maintenance costs for fleets and drivers

  • Reduced air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions

  • Stronger local economies and job growth in emerging energy sectors

Get Involved

We’re always looking for new partners—whether you manage a vehicle fleet, work in public policy, run a small business, or simply want to learn more about clean transportation options in Alaska.
