Eight Companies Join the Launch Alaska Portfolio

Launch Alaska is excited to introduce eight new additions to the Launch Alaska Portfolio – a collection of innovative startups helping to build more sustainable energy, transportation, and industrial sectors.

The eight new portfolio companies successfully completed Launch Alaska's eight-month Tech Deployment Track program, strengthening relationships with Alaska partners and pursuing projects in communities around the state. We look forward to seeing these technologies deliver more resilient, affordable systems for Alaskans, and we're proud to support these companies as they expand their positive impact. Notably, two of this year’s portfolio additions are based in Alaska.

With these additions, the Launch Alaska portfolio now represents 53 companies across energy, transportation, and industry.

ENERGY

Applied Atomics. Anchorage, AK, USA. Applied Atomics builds, owns, and operates co-located nuclear power plants from 100 MW to 1 GW, selling power directly to large industrial customers like hyperscalers, chip fabricators, and hard-to-decarbonize industries, as well as supporting U.S. military energy resilience. By employing proven reactor technology, established supply chains, and standard power plant equipment, Applied Atomics focuses on what actually holds nuclear back — cost and speed of deployment — rather than reinventing the physics.

BladeRunner. Bend, OR, USA. BladeRunner Energy delivers clean, distributed power to remote riverine communities by harnessing the natural flow of rivers — no dams or impoundments required. The technology is field-tested in wild river conditions, built for the logistical realities of remote deployments, and designed for integration with existing microgrids and power assets. 

Eden. Somerville, MA, USA. Eden's Electrical Reservoir Stimulation (ERS) technology is a next-generation reservoir stimulation method that improves the recovery of subsurface natural resources from low-permeability formations without injecting water or chemicals. 

GeoKiln. Houston, TX, USA. GeoKiln Energy Innovation is deploying Manufactured Subsurface Hydrogen (MSSH™), a technology that produces low-cost, low-carbon hydrogen directly from iron-rich geology using controlled thermal processes. By turning the subsurface into a scalable hydrogen factory, GeoKiln enables a new domestic energy resource with global potential.

GridWrap, Inc., San Diego, CA, USA. GridWrap develops cost-effective technologies to modernize electric grid infrastructure and improve reliability and resilience. Its solutions, including DEMIRWRAP® and Composite WiRe Wrap, reinforce utility poles and increase conductor capacity, enabling safer, more efficient use of existing assets without full replacement.

Natel Energy. Alameda, CA, USA. Natel Energy specializes in data-driven hydraulic design of FishSafe™ hydropower turbines—the best available technology to improve downstream fish passage, modernize existing plants, and return reliable megawatts to the grid. They use proprietary computer modeling and scale-model testing to reliably predict fish survival, and partner with turbine manufacturers to implement their designs at hydropower projects worldwide.

INDUSTRY

OCOchem. Richland, WA, USA. OCOchem has pioneered the industrialization of advanced Carbon FluX Electrolyzer technology to convert CO2 and water into organic molecules using electricity.

Remote Hands. Anchorage, AK, USA. Remote Hands is a workforce services company operating a tech-enabled professional services marketplace in rural and remote Alaska communities. They connect vetted, local "hands" with organizations requiring on-site services.
